Synergy Analysis
Purpose
The Synergy Analysis compares two motivation profiles on nine axes and shows where they are similar and where they differ. You can compare a person with a person, a person with a position, or two positions. For each axis, you get a text on what to pay attention to when working together.
The Synergy Analysis was previously called conflict analysis.
Typical uses:
- Collaboration of two people: compare two employee profiles to identify points of friction and complementary strengths, e.g. in a conflict.
- Succession: compare the employee profile of the previous holder of a position with a candidate.
- Team completion: compare an employee profile with a job profile or a motivation profile that is missing in the team.
Who can see this?
Team leaders and administrators, if the product is enabled for your account. The Synergy Analysis menu item is on the top level, not under Team.
As employee profiles, all users of your account who are not locked are available, up to 500. A person can only be compared if they have a motivation profile.
Layout

- 1. Select source – Defines the first of the two sources: in the Source field you choose the type Job profile, Motivation profile or Employee profile. The texts of the result are written from the perspective of this source.
- Template – Selects the entry of the first source. Which entries are available depends on the selected type, and without an entry the analysis cannot start.
- 2. Select source – Defines type and entry of the second source in the same way. The two sources may be of different types, for example a job profile and a person.
- Analyze – Starts the comparison of the two sources and shows the result below. The comparison is calculated anew with every click and changes no profiles.
- Download PPT – Downloads the most recently analyzed pair as a PowerPoint file and is only active after an analysis. The file shows the same values and texts as the result on the page.

- Header – Names both sources with their colors, the language of the texts and the time of the analysis. The language is German for a German interface and English otherwise.
- Introduction – Expands a fixed explanation of how to read differences: every need and every orientation has an opposite side. The more people differ, the better they can complement each other.
- Summary – Counts on how many axes the sources are similar, slightly different or clearly different. Clicking a level jumps to the first axis card of that level.
- Axis card – Shows one of up to nine axes with its two poles, a bar chart and the individual texts of both sources. Axes without a value are omitted.
- Difference – States the difference between the two sources on this axis as a value and a level, followed by the text on collaboration. The level depends on the absolute value and colors the chip green, orange or red.
Functions
Select the sources
The Synergy Analysis always compares exactly two profiles; the selection decides which. Job profile offers the job templates of your account: first your own non-archived templates, among them the target profiles of your positions, then the predefined ones. Motivation profile offers the 22 predefined motivation types, and Employee profile the users of your account who are not locked, each with their most recent motivation profile. The selection changes no profiles.
- Open Synergy Analysis.
- Under 1. Select source, select the type in the Source field. Job profile is preselected.
- Select the entry in the Template field next to it.
- Select the second source under 2. Select source in the same way.
If you want to read the texts from the perspective of the second source, swap the two sources.
Analyze
The application fetches the motivation profiles of both sources, calculates the difference on nine axes and reads the matching texts. The calculation is the same as in the PowerPoint export, so page and slides show the same values. The analysis stores nothing and sends no email; it is calculated anew with every click.
- Click Analyze.
- The result appears below the selection under the heading “Result of the synergy analysis”.
The result consists of the header, Introduction, Summary and up to nine axis cards, as the legend above describes them. Axes without values are omitted.
If you change a source after the analysis, “Selection changed – analyze again” appears and the cards are dimmed. The previous result stays in place until you click Analyze again.
If the analysis fails, “Analysis failed: …” appears with the cause. If a source has no motivation profile, “No motivation analysis available” also appears at that source.
Read the axis cards
Each card shows one of the nine axes on which the application compares two motivation profiles. An axis connects two opposite poles from the basic needs, orientations, preferences or focus. The values of both sources and the difference are the same as on the slides of the PowerPoint export; which text on collaboration appears depends on the value of the difference.
Each card names the axis at the top and its balance hint below it. The two poles with keywords are on the left and right. The chart shows the first source in blue-violet, the second in magenta and the difference in gray. Hover over the chart to see the full names and values. Below the chart are the individual texts of both sources with their value in parentheses, followed by the Difference chip with value and level.
| Difference (absolute) | Level | Color |
|---|---|---|
| up to 8 | similar | green |
| over 8 up to 20 | slightly different | orange |
| over 20 | clearly different | red |
The nine axes:
| Axis | Balance | Left pole | Right pole |
|---|---|---|---|
| Red-Green | Balance: Reliable actions | Security | Enforcement |
| Blue-Yellow | Balance: distribution of tasks, coordination | Recognition | Affiliation |
| Empathy vs. Insight | Balance: emotional intelligence | Empathy | Insight |
| Future vs. Past | Balance: actively using experience | The past | The future |
| Facts vs. Sense | Balance: sensible design | Facts | Sense |
| Perception: Sensing vs. Intuition | Balance: reflected ideas | Sensing | Intuition |
| Decision: Feeling vs. Thinking | Balance: sensible considerations | Feeling | Thinking |
| Drive to act: Impulsiveness vs. Self-control | Balance: Self-confidence | Self-control | Impulsiveness |
| Action control: Process vs. Result | Balance: appropriate reactions | Process | Result |
Next: Background on the axes is available in the knowledge base under Basic needs, Orientation, Preferences, Focus and Driving forces.
Download PPT
The export puts the analyzed pair into a PowerPoint file that contains the same values and texts as the result on the page. Because the button only becomes active after an analysis, there is no export without a visible result. The file always contains the most recently analyzed pair, even if you changed the selection afterwards.
- First click Analyze. Before that, Download PPT is not active.
- Click Download PPT.
The browser downloads the file TwentyFive_Diff.pptx, created in the language of the user interface. The export changes no data and sends no email. Afterwards “Export successful” appears; if an error occurs, “Export failed: …” appears.
Next: What the slides show is described on the page Comparison of motivation profiles.
Notes
The Synergy Analysis compares exactly two profiles. To compare all members of a team in pairs, use the Difference Matrix of the Team Analysis. Differences are not a rating: as the Introduction in the result explains, people complement each other better the more they differ.
